Accredited Caribbean Medical Schools: The Best Bet!

A Caribbean medical school, like any other medical school, is an institution that provides education in medicine. It provides training in Jamaica, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. If anybody is looking for a foreign college to study medicine, then a Caribbean medical school is a good option.
Many students prefer Caribbean medical schools over US medical schools as they provide education at a more affordable level, while still providing complete qualification for medical practice upon completion. They also give a chance to those who have been eliminated due to insufficient scores in US or Canada. These candidates stand one more chance of qualifying as doctors through these schools.

The criteria for getting admission into the Caribbean medical colleges is much easier than US medical schools, as they ask for less GPA and MCAT scores. Also, there are three application periods in a year instead of two application periods in the US. A Caribbean medical school has many plus points over the medical schools of US and Canada.

But the one important thing that needs to be noted is that most of the Caribbean medical schools are not accredited by all states in the US, which means that passing them will not qualify a student for practice in the United States or Canada.

For example New York, Florida, New Jersey and California have particularly stringent accreditation processes and they evaluate foreign schools individually. So, while planning to take admission in any of the Caribbean medical schools, you must be sure that your MD will count. Moreover, you need to confirm about future plans and make sure that the degree would be accepted in US or Canada, depending on where you want to practice.

One of the accredited Caribbean medical schools is Saint James School of Medicine (SJSM). The school helps motivated students in realizing their dream of medical career irrespective of their ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds.

Any accredited program will give medical education but it is better to pursue a course at a school where you can co-relate your goals with the method of teaching but in any case accreditation of the college is must. It is better to find out whether the school is accredited or not, before applying into the medical school.

It is very important to go through the advantages and disadvantages of pursuing medical studies in a Caribbean medical school before deciding firmly on this course of action. However, if you get the required benefits from an accredited school, then surely education from a Caribbean medical school would be worth.
