All You Need To Know About American Medical Schools

A medical school is an educational institute that provides the required qualification and training to an aspiring doctor. There are a number of medical schools in America and some of them are amongst the best in the world. One such medical school is in the Harvard University, which is considered to be the top one.
The 125 accredited US medical schools are represented by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). The training period of an aspiring doctor depends on the future plans of the specific student. If one wishes to do specialization in some field then the time period may extend up to eight years, otherwise a four year training is a must for each and every candidate.

Although the American medical schools are the top most priority of any candidate, it is quite difficult to get admission in one of these schools. The criteria vary from state to state but the basic requirements are same. The faculty of any American medical school evaluates a candidate on the basis of GPA and MCAT scores. The medical schools give more importance to the MCAT score, despite the fact that they say little about someone as a person.

However, there are other basic requirements too. A candidate wishing to join an American medical school must be good at co-curricular activities and should be able to show some of the activities on the application. An applicant is also evaluated on the basis of personal interview and recommendation letters. To get these recommendation letters, one has to be good at extra activities, as these are written by those professors who have interacted with the candidate at classroom level. The American medical schools look for candidates who have an all round personality and it is important to show that one is willing to work hard and passionately.

There are a number of American medical schools that offer various degree courses, so it is better to choose a course and school that caters one's creed to the nearest. And most importantly, a candidate should be sure of the fact that the school he is wishing to opt is an accredited one. One should also take care of the criteria of the specific schools, so that one can prepare one's self accordingly. Different schools offer different curriculum but the basic curriculum involves subjects such as pathology, biochemistry, anatomy, the behavioral sciences, surgery, the study of pediatrics and psychiatry including internal medicine and gynecology.

American medical schools provide degree not only for the aspiring doctors but also to those who wish to do something in many other fields of medicine like nursing, administration and other such fields. The choice of the course and school plays an essential role in shaping one's future and life, so one should take proper care in taking this decision.
