Caribbean Medical Schools- An Easier Way OutDespite the admission procedure being easier at Caribbean Medical Schools, there are some negative aspects of getting into one of these schools. The major one being, most of the Caribbean Medical Schools are not accredited by all the states in the US. There are specific states that evaluate medical schools individually. Florida, New York, California and New Jersey have particularly rigorous accreditation processes. The other point to be taken into consideration is that many Caribbean Medical Schools teach in Spanish or native languages. In addition to USMLE tests, a candidate is required to take the Clinical Skills Assessment (CSA). The US Medical School students have an advantage of various open options of clinical rotations, whereas the students of the Caribbean Medical Schools have limited options. The Caribbean Medical Schools have tie-ups with US hospitals, but limited options for clinical rotation means less exposure to medical practice. One of the major attractions of the Caribbean Medical Schools is that they give a chance to those students, who show the determination and dedication to successfully complete the degree and to be physicians. Those students who have been eliminated due to insufficient scores in US or Canada stand one more chance of qualifying as doctors at the Caribbean Medical Schools. Also US Medical Schools have limited seats that prevent many students from pursuing their dreams despite having a desired aptitude for the profession. In these cases, Caribbean Medical Schools seem to be advantageous. Some of the best Caribbean Medical Schools are: Ross School of Medicine, Saba School of Medicine, and St. George University. Although many students prefer to be a part of Caribbean Medical Schools, one needs to take care of all the pros and cons of taking admission in one of these schools. |
