International Medical Schools: Is It A Good Alternative For A Profession In Medicine? The second best option for students applying to international medical schools is to apply in Carribean medical schools. The Caribbean medical schools are easy to get in. They demand a lesser GPA and MCAT scores. They are less expensive and hence more affordable than the U.S. medical schools. Even after calculating the cost of a medical school abroad, students find Caribbean medical schools cheaper. An additional point that can be taken into account, varying from person to person, is that studying in a new country allows one to get involved with a new culture. However, these have a negative point too. Most of the Caribbean medical schools are not accredited. If a student passes out from a medical school that is not accredited, then he will not be allowed to practice in the U.S. or Canada. The candidates have many other options of international medical schools to pursue their dream of becoming a doctor. Many applicants try to get admission to an international school, each year, in order to fulfill the desire of becoming a doctor. Generally speaking, the medical school applicants who take admission in these international medical schools have a common objective. They plan to get transferred to an American medical college or somehow upon graduation, obtain a U.S. medical residency. But the students need to keep a fact in mind that American medical schools have very low attrition rate. Hence, the transfers are too difficult. In addition to this, the students of other American schools are given preference. So, students from Caribbean and Mexican medical schools have very low chances to get transferred to an American medical school. Despite there being a number of international medical schools available, the U.S. medical schools are preferred more. The international medical schools should be considered as the last option. They should be considered only when one is not able to qualify for the U.S. medical schools. It is also wise to wait for another year to prepare yourself again, to try to get admitted in any of the U.S. medical schools. |
