Caribbean Medical Schools- An Easier Way Out

The Caribbean Medical Schools cater to the requirements of an aspiring doctor, by providing proper education for degrees in many fields of medicine. Like other medical schools, Caribbean Medical Schools also provide the candidates with an opportunity to fulfill their dreams.

For many candidates, Caribbean Medical Schools act as a boon. As compared to US Medical Schools, these are less expensive and do not have very tough admission procedures. Even after calculating the extra costs of the medical schools abroad, the education here is cheaper. The other advantage is that there are three application periods in the year, in comparison to two in the US and Canada. The admission criteria is also much easier than the one in American Medical Schools. The Caribbean Medical Schools ask for less GPA and MCAT scores. Although the immigration process is tedious, foreign students find it easy to get sponsorship and funding for education at any of these medical schools.

Despite the admission procedure being easier at Caribbean Medical Schools, there are some negative aspects of getting into one of these schools. The major one being, most of the Caribbean Medical Schools are not accredited by all the states in the US. There are specific states that evaluate medical schools individually. Florida, New York, California and New Jersey have particularly rigorous accreditation processes.

The other point to be taken into consideration is that many Caribbean Medical Schools teach in Spanish or native languages. In addition to USMLE tests, a candidate is required to take the Clinical Skills Assessment (CSA). The US Medical School students have an advantage of various open options of clinical rotations, whereas the students of the Caribbean Medical Schools have limited options. The Caribbean Medical Schools have tie-ups with US hospitals, but limited options for clinical rotation means less exposure to medical practice.

One of the major attractions of the Caribbean Medical Schools is that they give a chance to those students, who show the determination and dedication to successfully complete the degree and to be physicians. Those students who have been eliminated due to insufficient scores in US or Canada stand one more chance of qualifying as doctors at the Caribbean Medical Schools. Also US Medical Schools have limited seats that prevent many students from pursuing their dreams despite having a desired aptitude for the profession. In these cases, Caribbean Medical Schools seem to be advantageous.

Some of the best Caribbean Medical Schools are: Ross School of Medicine, Saba School of Medicine, and St. George University. Although many students prefer to be a part of Caribbean Medical Schools, one needs to take care of all the pros and cons of taking admission in one of these schools.
